Quality Assurance Programme
We at SKMCH&RC are committed to providing the best possible care for our patients and are guided by the principles of equity, transparency and merit in all our activities, and are striving towards continual quality improvement.
A number of activities take place here to ensure quality of services and these include:
- Morbidity & Mortality Conferences: A monthly activity in which (peer) reviews of mistakes occurring during the care of patients are done. The objectives are to learn from complications and errors, to modify behavior and judgment based on previous experiences, and to prevent repetition of errors leading to complication.
- Clinical Audits: A quality improvement process that seeks to improve patient care and outcomes through systematic review of care against explicit criteria and the implementation of change.
- Medical Charts Audit: Monthly activity, done to assess compliance with the standards related to patient’s record
- Clinical Quality Monitoring: Evidence based evaluation through Hospital-wide and specialty-based key performance indicators. See Clinical Performance Indicators
International Accreditation: SKMCH&RC is on its way for achieving International accreditation which is healthcare specific certification aimed at constantly improving the quality of care provided to our patients.
Eighteen departments at SKMCH&RC are 9001:2008 ISO certified. Currently SKMCH&RC is working on ISO 15189 (Laboratory specific certification) for the Pathology Laboratory. External proficiency test system from College of American Pathologists is also being carried out to ensure the credibility of pathology laboratory results.
Patient Safety
As SKMCH&RC deals with cancer patients, therefore no risk can be taken as far as hygiene is concerned. To serve the patients best, admitted at the hospital, SKMCH&RC is the first hospital in Pakistan to have HACCP certification for food services department. Infection Control
Patients who are admitted in the Hospital are at high risk to get any infection during their course of treatment.
