Paediatric Oncology

The SKMCH&RC Pediatric Oncology department takes approximately 400-500 new cancer patients every year. These patients are then given the most up-to-date treatment for the large majority of childhood cancers following international protocols. Around 7,000 outpatient appointments are made every year to evaluate those undergoing treatment and to follow-up others who have completed theirs. Most of the departmental faculty has been trained from well reputed international hospitals.

Facilities & Services

A child with cancer needs very special attention: good medical care and constant nurturing in addition to unconditional support for his or her family as well. At Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, our team of doctors, nurses and supportive services strive to provide the best possible care for children with cancer. The aim is not only to provide cancer treatment but also to improve the lives of those who receive it.

SKMCH&RC, Lahore is the only hospital in the country to offer autologous bone marrow transplant treatment for lymphoma and solid tumours. This service has regularly reported excellent results since its inception in 2009. Allo-Bone marrow transplant is in the pipeline for the year 2018 in Malignant Haematology.

Department sub-sections:

Inpatients: The Pediatric Oncology department has a dedicated 28-bedded Inpatient unit with an average of 28-35 children admitted at any given time. Intensive care unit (ICU) facility is also available for children requiring such care.

Chemotherapy Bay: The department has a 10-bed day unit where outpatient chemotherapy is provided to 35-40 patients every day.

Clinics: Outpatient clinics for cancer patients are held on a daily basis.
