Message from Acting Chief Nursing Officer

I welcome you here at the Shaukat Khanum Institute of Health Sciences (SKIHS), established in 2003 to train nurses. The institute’s building, known as the Begum Mir Faculty of Nursing, was built in honour of Mr. Rehman Mir’s mother.

SKIHS believes in providing quality education in line with the SKMCH&RC’s mission. Through problem-based, practical teaching and learning activities, the faculty at SKIHS seeks to deliver student-centred learning to improve the overall learning experience. To accomplish this goal, we employ cutting-edge instructional techniques in the classroom, lab, and clinical settings. Under the accrediting criteria, we are working to deliver the best educational outcomes while improving constantly.

Our goal at SKIHS is to train nurses who, in addition to being knowledgeable, skilled, and specialized in their field, will also uphold professional and ethical standards throughout the patient’s care. This will enable them to deliver safe and effective nursing care to patients, their families and society and lead healthcare systems in future.

Therefore, it is imperative to enable the nurse working in the oncology setting to move to the next step of academic preparation and practice development.

Post Basic Diploma Programs

Since 2000, one-year post-basic diplomas in oncology nursing have been offered, while diplomas in critical care nursing and perioperative nursing have been offered since 2012. These diplomas are recognised by the Pakistan Nursing Council and affiliated with the Punjab Nursing Examination Board.
