7-Star International Best Practice Award
The SKMCH&RC received the 7-Star International Best Practice (Role Model, World-Class, Wow!) award at the 10th International Best Practice Competition 2024. This prestigious recognition highlights our innovative approach to ensuring the safety of equipment, sterile consumables, and medications.
Organised by the Centre for Organisational Excellence Research (COER) and the Best Practice Improvement Resource (BPIR), this accolade underscores our commitment to advancing patient care.
Best Practice—Process Management and Improvement Award
SKMCH&RC won the Best Practice—Process Management and Improvement Award presented at the 10th International Best Practice Competition 2024 for the project “In-house Development and Utilization of Temperature and Humidity Devices.”
This award reflects our dedication to implementing cutting-edge solutions that uphold safety and quality standards in healthcare.
ASCO QOPI Certification Program
On September 1, 2023, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre received certification under the “Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®) Certification Program”, which is associated with the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).
The QOPI® Certification Program provides three-year certification for outpatient hematology-oncology practices.
Pakistan is only the sixth country in the world outside the US to have obtained this certification.
Level 5 of Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI)
The MIS Department of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre has been appraised at Level 5 of Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI).
Level 5 of CMMI maturity, the highest level, is focused on enhancing process performance continuously using both incremental and novel technical advancements. At this stage, the processes are both stable and flexible. The organisation prioritises sustainable progress and adapting to changes.
Committed to continuous improvement, SKMCH&RC has become Pakistan’s first and only hospital whose MIS Department has achieved this benchmark.
JCI Enterprise Accreditation Update 2022
We are pleased to share that our enterprise accreditation has been formally updated on the #JCI website. JCI Enterprise Accreditation evaluates and recognises health systems that establish consistency within their systemwide governance, policies and procedures across their facilities, which include multiple care settings. Shaukat Khanum is one of the first organisations in the world to have achieved enterprise accreditation for the following:

Sultanate of Oman Excellence Award for Health Services During Crisis by the International Hospital Federation (IHF)
Sultanate of Oman Excellence Award aims to recognise the achievements of hospitals and healthcare organisations in low-and middle-income countries during a time of crisis.
Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust has received the Sultanate of Oman Excellence Award for Health Services During Crisis by the International Hospital Federation (IHF) for the project, “Cancer Hospital Stockpiles: Strategizing for an Efficient and Sufficient Inventory list of Essential Items for Setups Serving in Low-income Countries.”
P@SHA ICT Award
Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre won the P@SHA Merit Award for Hospital Information System in the Health and Wellbeing category.
Accreditation from Joint Commission International
Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Peshawar underwent a rigorous on-site survey from July 15 to 19, 2019 when a team of Joint Commission International expert surveyors evaluated compliance with hospital standards related to a variety of areas. The Hospital earned Joint Commission International’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Hospital Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its internationally-recognized standards. The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.

Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Lahore has earned Joint Commission International’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Hospital Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its internationally-recognized standards. The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.
SKMCH&RC, Lahore underwent a rigorous on-site survey from April 23 to 27, 2018. During the survey, a team of Joint Commission International expert surveyors evaluated compliance with hospital standards related to a variety of areas, including the International Patient Safety Goals, patient assessment and care, anesthesia and surgical care, medication management, patient and family education, quality improvement, infection prevention and control, governance and leadership, facility management, staff qualifications and education, and information management.
Sustaining the JCI accreditation, SKMCH&RC, Lahore achieved re-accreditation in 2021 after being surveyed against new and far more stringent standards set by the JCI in its 7th edition of standards.
Accreditation by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists
Pharmacy residency program of SKMCH&RC has been accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) in 2020. ASHP is the only body that accredits pharmacy residency programs in the USA. After Egypt’s Children’s Hospital, SKMCH&RC is the first non-US hospital in the world to receive this accreditation.
Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP) Certification
SKMCH&RC was first awarded the NPO Certification by the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy in 2006 for meeting standards in the areas of Internal Governance, Financial Management, and Programme Delivery. This certification is renewed after every three years and most recently, our hospitals received the NPO certification in the year 2021.
Effie Awards Pakistan
Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre won the Effie Awards Pakistan 2019 in the ‘Health-Services Category’ for its Sadqa campaign ‘Jari Rahay Saqay Ki Ebadat, Banti Rahay Umeed Ki Amarat’.
International Hospital Federation (IHF) Membership Certification
SKMCH&RC, Lahore has been awarded the Membership Certificate by International Hospital Federation (IHF) in 2018.
Global Good Governance (3G) Award
Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Lahore received the Global Good Governance (3G) Awards in the category “3G Leadership Award for Social Sector & Philanthropy 2017” for Service Excellence and Cancer Treatment & Research.
Management Association of Pakistan (MAP) Award
Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre has been awarded the prestigious Corporate Excellence Award in the Not-for-Profit sector by the Management Association of Pakistan (MAP) in the following years: 2023, 2022, 2021, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, and 2010.
Pakistan Advertisers Society (PAS) Award
SKMCH&RC, Lahore won the PAS Award for the third consecutive year in 2016 in the ‘Healthcare and Hygiene Category’ for its Zakat campaign ‘Sab Kuch Wapas Aa Skta Hai…Siwaye Zindagi Kay’.
SKMCH&RC, Lahore was the winner of the PAS Awards 2015 in the ‘Hospital and Healthcare Category’ for its 5 Rupee Daily campaign ‘Agar Hai Peshawar Main Shaukat Khanum Haspataal Banana, Tau Dainain Hain Sirf Paanch Rupay Rozana’.
In 2015, SKMCH&RC, Lahore was the winner of the PAS Awards not only in the ‘Hospital and Healthcare Category’ but also in the ‘Campaign of the Year Award’ for its Zakat campaign “Main To Sirf Bara Hona Chahta Hoon”.
In 2012, the Hospital won the PAS Award in the category of Public Service, Government & CSR for its campaign “Kho Na Jaye Koi”.
Employer Federation of Pakistan (EFP) Award
SKMCH&RC, Lahore was awarded the second place in the category of Human Resource Development by EFP in 2014.
Health Level 7 Pakistan Benefactor Membership
SKMCH&RC, Lahore was designated as a Benefactor Member of HL7 Pakistan in 2010. This membership enables SKMCH&RC to make healthcare systems inter-operable by adopting health standards such as HL7.
American Association of Continuing Medical Education (AACME) Accreditation
SKMCH&RC, Lahore became the first hospital in Pakistan to have accreditation by AACME as a Continuing Medical Education provider for healthcare professionals in 2009.
Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)
Certification
The Food and Dietary Services department of SKMCH&RC, Lahore was awarded the HACCP in 2008.
Capability Maturity Model (CMMI) ML2 Certification
SKMCH&RC, Lahore was the first hospital in Pakistan and the first cancer hospital in the world to achieve the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Maturity Level 2 in 2008.
Human Rights Society of Pakistan Award
SKMCH&RC was awarded for its humanitarian efforts on the 27th Award Ceremony of the Human Rights Society of Pakistan in 2008.
Quality Management Systems Certification
SKMCH&RC, Lahore was awarded the ISO 9001: 2008 certification for Diagnostic and Therapeutic Cancer Services in 2007. The Hospital was awarded the original certification in 2001.
ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System
The Food and Dietary Services at SKMCH&RC in Lahore and in Peshawar was awarded ISO 22000 certification for Food Safety Management System in 2022.
Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) Membership
SKMCH&RC, Lahore was awarded membership of the UICC in 2006.
World Health Organization (WHO) Award
SKMCH&RC, Lahore was presented the World Health Organization’s UAE Foundation Prize for ‘Outstanding work in health development that has already been accomplished and that has extended far beyond the call of normal duties’ in 2006.
Institutional Management Certification Programme (IMCP)
SKMCH&RC, Lahore successfully participated in capacity building process for meeting the USAID Management Standards under the IMCP in 2006.
International Network for Cancer Treatment and Research (INCTR) Membership
SKMCH&RC, Lahore was granted Associate Membership of INCTR in 2005.
Pakistan Software Export Board Registration
SKMCH&RC, Lahore is registered with Pakistan Software Export Board of the Ministry of Information Technology, Government of Pakistan, since 2003.
College of American Pathologists (CAP) Registration
SKMCH&RC, Lahore is registered with the CAP for Proficiency Testing Survey since 2002.
