Grossing Station
A Grossing Station is a workplace used by pathologists to carry out the process of grossing, that is, inspection of a specimen with naked eye to obtain diagnostically critical information, such as staging of surgically removed tumours. A Grossing Station is sufficiently equipped to serve two main purposes. The first is the preparation of documented gross description of examiner’s findings. The second is preparation of tissue blocks from the provided surgical specimen. These tissue blocks are sealed in plastic cassettes to be processed for microscopic examination as slides.
