Department of Medical Oncology at SKMCH&RC Peshawar plays a central role in the diagnosis, management and treatment of adult patients with cancer from the time they are first diagnosed to the later stages of their illness. The Department of Medical Oncology comprises of consultant medical oncologists, specialist physician at Walk-in Clinic, medical officers, nursing staff and administrative staff.

OUR EXPERTISE

We provide state of the art comprehensive and compassionate care with dignity to our patients suffering from cancer. Cancer is a complex and multifaceted illness that requires multidisciplinary effort.  Accordingly, all patients at SKMCH&RC, Peshawar are assessed in a multidisciplinary fashion, in liaison with SKMCH&RC, Lahore, where a team of medical, surgical and radiation oncologists along with pathologists and radiologists work together to prepare a personalized treatment plan for each individual patient. Patients are then treated in accordance with the internationally-accepted standards of care.

The Department of Medical Oncology offers systemic therapy in accordance with the Hospital policy and international guidelines. This includes, but is not limited to, chemotherapy, biologic or targeted therapy and immunotherapy.

The outpatient 10-bedded Chemotherapy Bay is functional 6 days a week and provides a comfortable and safe area to receive intravenous chemotherapy on outpatient basis. Modern and spacious outpatient rooms are provided for consultations with the consultant medical oncologists. A 24 hour Emergency Room facility is available to all patients for acute illnesses and emergencies along with a modern Intensive Care Unit and a Dialysis facility.

At SKMCH&RC, Peshawar patients are given up-to-date and understandable information about their disease and treatment process. Our patients are guided and supported by our team of psychologists, trained oncology nurses, social workers and nutritionists.

At SKMCH&RC, Peshawar, Patients’ Rights Advocacy is highly valued and an integral part of our goal to provide care with dignity. The Hospital is supported by an active Hospital Ethics Committee and QPS Department to address all complaints that may arise from the patient and/or its family during the course of their treatment at SKMCH&RC, Peshawar.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES FOR PHYSICIANS

The fellowship programme in Medical Oncology at SKMCH&RC, Peshawar provides training in all aspects of Medical Oncology through a structured training programme recognised by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), leading to FCPS in Medical Oncology.
