A Microtome is an instrument that is used to cut extremely thin slices of biological tissue to be examined under a microscope. Microtomes use steel blades for animal tissue, glass blade for electron microscopy, and diamond knives to slice hard materials such as bone and teeth. It is a tool that helps in the preparation of tissue samples for tumour diagnosis and staging purposes.
