Getting an Appointment

Shaukat Khanum Hospitals in Lahore Peshawar and Karachi have resumed physical visits of new patients in all clinics/specialties in its Outpatient Department. This is being done while ensuring strict precautionary measures. Starting from October 2021, only vaccinated attendants and visitors are allowed inside our hospitals. We encourage patients and staff to complete their Covid-19 vaccination as soon as possible. Wearing masks is no longer mandatory in our facilities. However, patients are encouraged to continue to wear surgical masks. As far as possible and practical, patients should come alone, so as to reduce crowding in the building, and no more than thirty minutes before their appointed time. These outpatient clinics for new patients will function from 9 am till 8 pm,, six days a week  from Monday to Saturday. Telemedicine Clinics will continue to function as usual, ensuring that assessment and management of patients on follow-up continues, and we are able to review the results of investigations, advise on medication and determine the need for new treatment in the usual manner. The Walk-In clinics in Lahore, Peshawar and Karachi will continue to function as normal. The patients presenting for the first time to the Walk-In Clinic or registering for the first time in OPD must bring their original government issued identification documents (e.g. national identity card/B form or passport.)

About Telemedicine:

Telemedicine involves the use of telecommunication technology to provide clinical services to patients without an in-person visit. It allows health care professionals to assess, diagnose and manage patients at a distance using electronic device and software. It is becoming an increasingly important part of the western world healthcare infrastructure, and over last few years near all leading hospitals in United States, such as Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, Massachusetts General Hospital and Cleveland Clinic, and healthcare networks worldwide, for example National Health Service (UK) and Canada Health are utilizing telecommunication technology for delivering healthcare.

Recently, due to the ongoing COVID – 19 pandemic, many countries and leading healthcare systems all over the world have allowed telemedicine clinics, conducted by video- or voice-call, to temporarily replace face to face consultations. Telemedicine can now be used for new patient consultations as well as for follow-up visits, management of chronic conditions, medication management, specialist consultations and a host of other clinical services remotely via secure video and audio connections.

Benefits of telemedicine include:

  • No travel expenses
  • No exposure to potentially contagious infections
  • Less time away from work and family
  • Privacy

Telemedicine is ideal for the following types of patients:

  • Those who are living in rural areas or isolated communities,
  • Patients who have limited mobility, time, or transportation options, and
  • Patients that are worried about exposure to potentially contagious infections
