Peshawar Project Sponsorships available for Dedication
In line with its mission, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH&RC) continues to strive to provide top quality diagnostic and treatment facilities for cancer patients, irrespective of their ability to pay. After the Punjab, patients from the Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa (KPK) province form the largest group of patients seen at SKMCH&RC, Lahore, since 1994. In an effort to bring care closer to the patients, the second Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre was built in Peshawar.
Recognizing the credibility of the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust (SKMT), the then provincial government awarded 50 kanals of land in Peshawar for the construction of the Hospital. This historic second SKMCH&RC in Peshawar witnessed an overwhelming support of the people of Pakistan, both from within Pakistan and abroad. Fakhir Afridi, a seven year old cancer patient, along with Mr. Imran Khan, Chairman, Board of Governors of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust, inaugurated the second SKMCH&RC in Hayatabad, Peshawar on December 29, 2015. The Hospital has been constructed and equipped at a total cost of Rs. 4 billion. It’s an eight level structure with two basements, a ground floor and five upper floors. The covered area of the Hospital in Peshawar is even larger than that of the Hospital in Lahore.
SKMCH&RC, Peshawar has completed phase II of its development, with the introduction of radiation treatment facilities, and now has a functional Clinical and Radiation Oncology Department. The department is equipped with the latest diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, including a 16-slice CT simulator, two state-of-the-art linear accelerators and the latest digital treatment planning system. This is now the most technologically advanced facility in Pakistan, north of SKMCH&RC Lahore, and commencement of clinical functions here means that patients will no longer have to travel to Lahore for most radiotherapy treatments. We will continue to invest in the latest technology to ensure that the best possible treatment is available to patients at all our clinical facilities, regardless of their ability to pay.
The financial challenge with the addition of Peshawar Hospital has intensified for SKMT as it now needs to sustain two Hospitals simultaneously along with commencing the construction and expansion of its projects. SKMT relies on your donations to continue its mission of providing financially supported treatment to 75% of its patients annually.
